July 4th Edina Parade Participation
By Linda Presthus
The streets were lined with enthusiastic spectators who enjoyed a beautiful summer morning of patriotic festivities. The Republican volunteers appreciated the warm welcome from the spectators as our parade unit traveled the route. Republican volunteers walked the parade route handing out 5,500 red, white, and blue beaded necklaces to the joy of the parade goers. The Republican participants in the parade also included SD 41 Senator Geoff Michel, Representative Ron Erhardt and Representative Neil Peterson. Senate District 41 Republicans were also joined by College Republicans from the University of St. Thomas. Our trademark float with the giant inflatable elephant and the bandwagon playing patriotic music survived another parade.

Following the parade we served a BBQ picnic in the Edina Community Center to over 200 volunteers. We were honored to have as our guests dozens of the veterans from the parade and the Reservists who drove the veterans’ Humvees and deuces in the parade. It felt good to serve those who have served this wonderful country so well.
The Senate District 41 Executive Committee would like to thank our volunteers for all the efforts they put into making our participation in the Edina July 4th parade and family BBQ picnic such a great patriotic event.
We also want to thank the City of Edina, the Edina July 4th Parade Committee, Edina City Council and parade sponsors for hosting a wonderful community event and to all the parade goers who so warmly welcomed the Senate District 41 Republicans.
