Commissioner Garvey to Speak at February Dinner
The Deputy Commissioner for Energy and Telecomunications at the Minnesota Department of Commerce, Edward A. Garvey will be the guest speaker at the next Senate District 41 Republican Dinner Forum on Febuary 27th at Calvary Lutheran Church, located at 6817 Antrim Road in Edina.
Mr. Garvey received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1983 and Law degree in 1986, both from the University of Minnesota. He received his Masters in Business Administration from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota in 1998. In January of 2003 was appointed Deputy Commissioner for the Energy and Telecommunications Division of the Minnesota Department of Commerce.
Prior to this, he served on the Minnesota Public Utilities Commission from 1997-2002, serving as Chair of the Commission for three years. In this capacity, he has served as Vice-Chair of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners' (NARUC) Committee on Energy Resources and the Environment and Chaired the NARUC Subcommittee on Administration. He also served on the NARUC Board of Directors, the EPRI Advisory Council and the Board of Directors of the National Regulatory Research Institute (NRRI). Since November 1998 Mr. Garvey has represented NARUC at the international climate change negotiation meetings.
Before his appointment to the Commission, Deputy Commissioner Garvey served as Director of the Minnesota Office of Environmental Assistance from January 1995 to January 1997. He also served as an environmental and health care policy advisor to former U.S. Senator Durenberger and practiced law at the Minneapolis law firm of Gray, Plant, and Mooty. The evening social hour and dinner begins at 6 PM with a $8 dinner donation for adults and $4 for students.
