Senator Michel Receives Citizens League Award

At its 2005 Annual Meeting on Monday October 10, the Citizens League bestowed its first “Civic Leadership Award” to the “2020 Legislative Caucus”, co-founded by Senator Geoff Michel (R) of Senate District 41.

The independent, non-partisan Citizens League, founded in 1952, is one of the nation's premier citizen-based "good government" organizations. The organization is distinguished by its pioneering process, which involves citizens studying public issues and developing policy solutions.

The 2020 Legislative Caucus is the first multi-partisan group of legislators from both houses and the first non-Citizens League volunteers to win this award.  Keith Halleland, Citizens League Board Chair, remarked that staff and Board leadership considered over 20 nominated individuals, but thought that this group stood out for special recognition this year.

“The 2020 Caucus is notable not only for their multi-partisanship, but also because they are taking the ‘long-view’ on some of the most important policy issues facing Minnesota,” Halleland said. Halleland praised these legislators for their interest in understanding the critical demographic facts that will shape public policy in Minnesota for the next generation, but also for their interest in building the relationships necessary to govern together effectively.

Following the announcement co-founder Senator Geoff Michel and Rep. Joe Atkins along with the other twenty-one members of the 2020 Legislative Caucus were given a certificate for their out standing civic leadership.
