Hennepin County Sheriff Elect Stanek To Speak At The Nov. 28th Dinner Forum

Hennepin County Sheriff Elect Rich Stanek will be the guest speaker at the next Senate District 41 Republican Dinner Forum on November 28th at Calvary Lutheran Church, located at 6817 Antrim Road in Edina.stanek_2

In the recent election, Rich Stanek was elected Hennepin County Sheriff, succeeding Sheriff Pat McGowan. He brings to the position twenty-two years of law enforcement experience, serving as Commander of the Criminal Investigations Division for the Minneapolis Police Department. Stanek also serves on the Global Justice Information Advisory Committee, which advises U.S. Attorney General on the efficient sharing of secure justice information and the Criminal Intelligence Coordinating Council (CICC), promoting the sharing of intelligence information from a local law enforcement perspective.

Prior to the election, Rich Stanek had risen through the ranks of the Minneapolis Police Department and had been appointed Police Inspector and Commander of the city's Second Precinct. In 2003, he left his Second Precinct assignment to serve the Governor of Minnesota as the commissioner of the Minnesota Department of Public Safety, a diverse agency of 2,000 employees with an annual budget of over $254 million.
 
Earlier, while serving in the Minnesota House of Representatives from 1995 to 2003, Stanek established himself as a nationwide leader on issues related to crime and public safety. As a Minnesota legislator, he was a member of the National Conference of State Legislatures Task Force on Protecting Democracy, which was formed to assist states with coordinating a response to domestic terrorism issues. Among his many legislative accomplishments, he established Minnesota's integrated justice information system (CriMNet) and Minnesota's anti-terrorism legislation, for which he secured state and federal funding. He was instrumental in strengthening Minnesota laws to protect citizens from drunk drivers and sex offenders.

Rich has been a frequent speaker at state and national criminal justice and homeland security symposiums and conferences. The evening social hour and dinner begins at 6 PM with a $7 dinner donation for adults and $4 for students.
